I first installed Ubuntu 6.10, did a complete update and then did a graphical upgrade to Ubuntu 7.04.

This had two issues:

  1. The nvidia nvidia-glx-new package was malformed [Solved with a patch, see NvidiaDriver]
  2. My HVR-1300 never could be fully supported. (I could not compile a new v4l beacuse of to old kernel)

Next step was to Upgrade to 7.10 Beta.

However this did not solve my problem getting my HVR-1300 to work, so I tried an upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10 Beta. http://onlyubuntu.blogspot.com/2007/09/upgrade-ubuntu-704-feisty-fawn-to.html

The NetworkManager applet could not find some required resources. It cannot continue.

I got a problem with "The NetworkManager applet could not find some required resources. It cannot continue." which, according to Sébastien Wains homepage can be solved by issuing:

sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor

Getting rid of "automatic network service discovery disabled" message

Look in System/Administration/Network in the General tab and make sure the Automatic Service Discovery box is unchecked.

I created a new user, mythtv, and set it to autologin "System->Preferences->Login".

Connecting S-Video gave black and white picture.
